Stem Cell Biology
I worked in Konrad Hochedlinger’s lab from 2006-2010 for my PhD. I figured out a way to make induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) equivalent to embryonic stem cells, which led to a publication in the inaugural issue of Cell Stem Cell. I developed a system to interconvert stem cells and adult cells using a drug-inducible switch. I have a patent around this, and the system has been used to find differences in conversion efficiency depending on starting cell type, to mine for differences between iPSCs and embryonic stem cells on a matched genetic background, and to use for screens to find factors that enhance the efficiency of iPSC formation. I had a hell of a fun time doing this work.
