Type 1 Diabetes

I worked in Doug Melton’s lab at Harvard University from 2014-2016, doing strategic planning and project management for research in type 1 diabetes. This work culminated in a white paper for cure and prevention research in type 1 diabetes. I also managed a research project to create stem cell-based humanized mouse models for autoimmunity. For this, we found conditions to monitor rejection of stem cell-derived beta cells by a mismatched immune system, which set the stage for doing this using cells from a type 1 diabetic patient, essentially re-creating the immune attack against beta cells and allowing us to study it (and ideally prevent it).
